Eastern AHEC is committed to providing the highest quality continuing education for all health care providers.  Obtaining appropriate credit for our programs is an important part of this effort.  When credit is approved for a continuing education event, it means that steps have been taken to insure that the program is designed to meet specifically identified needs and planned in a way that insures a high quality experience, and offers the most up-to-date information and strategies for the program’s target audience.

For some disciplines a specific type of credit is not necessary and a certificate indicating contact hours is sufficient.  Contact hours are automatically awarded to all program participants.  Examples are social workers and marriage/family therapists.

Most disciplines require a specific type of credit or credits in order to maintain licensure or certification.  There are more than thirty different credits that can be awarded or obtained for programs sponsored by Eastern AHEC.  If you are looking for credit, be certain that the type of credit you need is offered for a given program.  Individuals must be fully aware of the types of credit they can use to fulfill their requirements.

CE requirements for disciplines frequently change.  Effective July 1, 2006 nurses will be required to obtain continuing education credits to maintain licensure.

Individuals are responsible for maintaining their own credit documentation for credentialing purposes.  In some cases certificates are provided to participants on the day of the CE program.  Depending on the type of credit awarded, certificates may be mailed from the accrediting agency within four to six weeks following a program.  Health care professionals are encouraged to maintain professional portfolios that contain important CE documents.  If documentation is misplaced, Eastern AHEC can assist by providing transcripts of CE credit on request and for a minimal fee.  These transcripts include all continuing education events attended at any AHEC in North Carolina.
