The Department of Pharmacy Education promotes pharmacy practice throughout the EAHEC region through several programs.

We provide service and education to practicing pharmacists in the form of regional continuing education and certificate programs for advanced training in disease state management.

We coordinate pharmacy student education at the introductory and advanced training levels for UNC School of Pharmacy PharmD candidates through the Professional Experience Program.

We offer role models for pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical care delivery by providing preceptors for PharmD students and residents in family medicine inpatient and ambulatory care settings.

We foster the development of preceptor skills for regional pharmacists who participate in the UNC School of Pharmacy Professional Experience Program.

We promote the retention of new pharmacy graduates to the EAHEC region through rotation experiences in community health settings and pharmacies, and by participating in interdisciplinary training in rural areas.

We provide twice-monthly on-campus seminars for pharmacy students to complement clinical rotations. These sessions focus on

  • Case discussion about the application of clinical skills to patient care
  • Development of formal and informal presentation skills
  • Interpretation of medical literature using evidence-based principles.
