May 2005 Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning
Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning
This month’s article of the month takes you back to the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (http://www.casel.org). (See the Articles of the Month for August 2004 and November 2004 for other references to this collaborative.) The May 2005 edition of CASEL Connections (http://www.casel.org/listservs/enewsletters/e-news-may05.htm) has a number of very helpful articles. Some of the topics covered are peer relationships and academic performance, the importance of mentors, closing the academic gap with students of color, success of urban schools, connectedness (of course), service-learning, depression, parents’ versus policymakers’ expectations, and zero tolerance. All these are well worth your end-of school year read.
