School Connectedness: What is it, how is it measured and how is it increased?

The November 2004 Article of the Month is the November issue of CASEL Connections  from the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL). As noted in the August Article of the Month, CASEL is a center at the University of Chicago at Illinois that promotes and researches academic, social and emotional learning. One of the topics in this issue focuses on school connectedness. It is general knowledge, backed by sound research, that children who feel a greater sense of connectedness to their schools will perform better academically and relate better socially. Take a look at what you and your school can do to help your students connect with the school.
