    Nursing focuses on human responses to health concerns. Nurses provide services to help people maintain and improve their health.

    Through the Nursing Process, nurses help the "whole" person which includes physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological needs.

    It is important to like working with people of all ages. Nursing requires critical thinking and independent decision-making. Often the nurse is a case manager and helps patients to locate services. Nurses demonstrate:

    What Type Of Training Is Required To Become A Nurse?
    Three types of programs prepare you for the nursing licensure examination to become a registered nurse(RN):

    1. University or College Program which takes 4 years and prepares you with a baccalaureate degree in nursing or a BSN
    2. Community College Program which takes two years and prepares you with an associate degree in nursing or a AND
    3. Hospital School of Nursing program which takes 3 years and provides you with a diploma in nursing
    .

    Which Colleges In North Carolina Offer A Nursing Degree?
    There are several University of North Carolina Campuses, including
    East Carolina University, which offer a BS Degree in Nursing.


    What Is The Expected Salary For A Nurse?
    A beginning new graduate can ear $25,500 to $27,500 a year. Salary increases occur with experience and practice location.


    What Should You Do Now To Prepare For A Nursing Career?
    Science and college preparatory classes will help. Volunteer work in a health care setting, observing nurses at work, will help prepare you for the type of skills and knowledge needed for nursing.
