Downloads: Application Packet; Recommendation Form

The Ventures Into Health Careers Institute is designed to introduce highly motivated minority youth from rural eastern North Carolina to the careers and opportunities in the health field. The Institute includes observation of health professionals, seminars, and workshops (with emphasis on math, sciences, and communication skills). Personal development and self-awareness activities are also included. The Institute is designed to attract and enhance the preparation of minority students for higher education and health professions. Rising sophomores (currently in the 9th grade) with a grade point average of 3.0 and above are eligible to apply.

It is scheduled for the last two weeks in June on the campus of East Carolina University. Twenty participants are selected to participate in the institute. Information and applications for the Ventures Institute are mailed to counselors and teachers in high school in the Eastern AHEC region in February of each year.

Accepted participants are required to submit a $50 registration fee to attend. The State Model AHEC Grant through the North Carolina Health Education Center Program provides financial support. Students are housed on campus for the entire two-week period.
